The Dallas Mavericks have waived longtime center Dwight Powell, ending his 11-year tenure with the team.
According to reports, Powell was a late add to the team just as training camp started last month, raising the possibility of a 13th season with the Mavericks.
Dwight Powell's Departure
- Powell played in 763 games for the Mavericks, averaging 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game.
- He was a key contributor to the team over the years, playing all but five of his 768 games with Dallas, including 266 starts.
The Legacy of Dwight Powell in Dallas
Powell joined the Mavericks in December 2014 as part of a deal that included five players and two draft picks. He played the next 11 full seasons with the team, appearing in the fifth-most games (763) in Mavericks history.
The Fallout from Dwight Powell's Waiver
According to sources, Rondo and then-coach Rick Carlisle clashed during Powell's time with the team, leading to Rondo's departure without playing a full season with Dallas. This incident may have contributed to Powell's waiver by the Mavericks.
Dwight Powell's Next Chapter
The 35-year-old Powell will now look to continue his career elsewhere. With his experience and skillset, he has a good chance of finding a new team willing to take him on, given his ability to contribute to a team over the years.
